Tiles make up the basic layout of the Crypt of the NecroDancer. They come in two types: Floor Tiles that the player can stand on, and Walls that provide an obstacle to movement.

Floor Tiles[]

Name Appearance Properties
Water
  • The player and monsters get stuck upon entering Water. They cannot move or attack until they take a beat to escape, after which the Water is removed from its tile.
  • Freeze turns Water into Ice.
  • Bombs and Fireball remove Water.
  • When Hot Coals are created on Water, the tile is cleared.
  • Appears in Zone 1 and the Coral Riff boss room.
Tar
  • The player and monsters get stuck upon entering Tar. They cannot move or attack until they take a beat to escape.
  • Freeze turns Tar into Ice.
  • Appears in Zone 2, and can be created by killing Tar Monsters.
Hot Coals
  • The player takes 1 Heart of damage when standing still on Hot Coals for a beat.
  • Freeze removes Hot Coals.
  • When Ice is created on Hot Coals, the tile becomes Water.
  • Appears in Zone 3, and can be created by fire monsters or Hot Stone.
Ice
  • The player slides on Ice. The player cannot attack and must move in the direction they entered.
    • Attempting to move or attack while sliding WILL result in a missed beat and reset the Groove Chain multiplier. To avoid this, the player must avoid entering movement inputs until they've finished sliding.
    • The player can still use multi-press combos.
    • Wearing Lead Boots, Winged Boots, or Glass Slippers prevents sliding.
  • Bombs and Fireball turn Ice into Water.
  • When Hot Coals are created on Ice, the tile becomes Water.
  • Appears in Zone 3, and can be created by ice monsters or Cold Stone.
Ooze
  • The player is shrunk while standing on Ooze. While shrunk, the player cannot attack or dig and takes double damage from enemies.
  • Appears in Zone 4, and can be created by attacking Ooze Golems.
Conduit
  • While standing on a Conduit, the player becomes Charged. While Charged, attacks on monsters create an arc of lightning that deals 1 damage to any and all connected monsters.
    • Wearing Winged Boots prevents the player from becoming Charged.
  • Bombs remove Conduits.
  • Appears in Zone 5.
Rising Tile
  • Upon the player entering and exiting the tile, this becomes a Stone Wall.

Note: This tile does not appear anywhere in normal gameplay, but it can be accessed by using the level editor.

Lava
  • Kills almost anything that touches it
    • Dead Ringer takes 1 damage instead
    • Necrodancer except fight 2 phase 2 takes no damage

Note: in normal gameplay this only appears in phase 2 of the second Necrodancer fight, but it can be accessed by using the level editor.
